Corralling excitement awaits buckaroos and buckarettes alike while attending the children’s country fest events. Fascinating buckets of fun overflow for those wanting to see real cowboys and cowgirls exhibit their horses and share about rodeo life.
Highlights
Clogging:The cloggers are kicking up their heels! Tap your toes and experience the fun.
Square Dancing: The Wichita Area Square Dancing Community is excited to show children just how the best do-si-do and away you go is done. Children will be welcome to participate.
Line Dancing: Y’all form a line and join in. What a fantastic way to exercise while having a great time!
Dulcimer Demonstration: Watch a professional musician as he demonstrates the beauty of an old time instrument.
(All clogging, square dancing and line dancing are courtesy of the Wichita Area Square Dancing community. There are fifteen clubs in the area and lessons are available. Information is available to those interested.)
Washer woman: Did you ever think about how clothes were washed in the olden days? Come see the washer woman visit about the differences from long ago until now. Children may even get their hands wet.
Apple Dumpin’ Game: Be a part of the best ever HDG Wild West Gang as they race for the apples. You’ll need to team up with a partner as you carry your basket, put in the apples and race for the home finish line. If you don’t bring a partner don’t fret, because we will have a plenty waiting and ready for you.
Horseshoe Pitching: Take a toss at the peg and see how close you get – just don’t peg the other players!
Stick Horse Races: Children can experience and enjoy racing a stick horse to the finish line. Giddy up and have a pony race just like the old time cowboys used to do.
Panning For Treasure: The HDG panning trough allows the children to experience a small part of what the miners of years gone by experienced when sifting for gold. Hidden in the panning trough are some great findings and fun items. Please only one treasure find per child.
Roping Practice: Yeeehaaa pardners! Youngsters get to try their hands at roping the practice calves heads.
Country Coloring Contest: If you are anywhere between 3 and 11 pick a picture and display your completed art project at our country fest art display. Winners will be notified by mail following the Riverfest events. Every age group between 3 and 11 will have a winner. All art entries become the property of the Heritage Development Group, Inc. for future promotion and advertising.
Tic Tac Toe Country Style: Children have played tic tac toe for ages but probably not on a country board like this one. Give it a try and see how you do.
Little Critters Display: Everybody loves animals. They are so cute . . . . . sheep, donkeys, minature horses and more! We hope you can come and see them all.
Best of All!! Listen for the sound of the bell and head for the arena bleachers. At this time you will meet Honey Bun Heifer, Mikey Mutton(sheep) and Toots the Pig as they try to decide what Honey Bun Heifer can do in the rodeo. Professional Bull Rider, Jesse Schellhamer, will be there along with Rodeo Funny Man, Shawn “boom-boom” Thompson. Children will be dismissed after this event and gates will close at 2:00pm.
